Mohammed Al Sulaiti
Environmental and Climate Policy Expert, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Qatar
Mohammed Al Sulaiti is a PhD researcher funded by the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council (QRDI Council) at Imperial College London’s Centre for Environmental Policy, where he is pursuing a doctorate supervised by Ms Karen E. Makuch and co-supervised by Dr Zen Makuch (2019–present). He recently joined the University of Oxford's Centre for Socio-Legal Studies as a Visiting Recognised Student for Hilary and Trinity Terms (2023), under the supervision of Dr Nicole Stremlau and Dr Bettina Lange. His research areas include environmental law, environmental policy, climate change, and the development of legal frameworks in relation to the State of Qatar. His doctoral research focuses on ecological resilience and environmental decision-making within legislative, judicial, and executive bodies. Mohammed’s interest in environmental law began with an understanding of the critical role regulatory frameworks play in shaping effective environmental policy. His perspective was further shaped by his experience attending the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21), where the Paris Agreement was adopted. There, he saw the potential of international environmental law and treaties to transform legal narratives and influence national lawmaking. In the context of Qatar’s natural resource exploration and structural transitions, his research highlights the growing importance of sound environmental regulation and governance.
