Abubakar Mohammed Metcho is a sustainable development professional and policy analyst with over seven years of experience advancing green growth and SDG-aligned initiatives across Africa and the Gulf. He has played a pivotal role in designing and managing transformative programs that link environmental sustainability with social protection, including scaling $1 billion in investments under Nigeria’s MDGs framework and mobilizing $7 million for COVID-19 recovery through the One-UN Basket Fund in Nigeria. Abubakar’s work spans climate-resilient policies, food systems, and inclusive development. With the United Nations, he supported national efforts to institutionalize social protection systems, improve multidimensional poverty data, and accelerate SDG delivery at the national and subnational levels. His recent research at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Qatar focuses on evaluating food waste management strategies as part of green urban policies and the environmental impact of hospitality operations, contributing to climate action and sustainable consumption goals. He is a published author on blue economy policy, disaster resilience, and urban sustainability.
