Focus Group
Green Industrialisation
The Green Hydrogen focus group will explore how Gulf climate finance can help develop green hydrogen economies across the Global South by supporting low-carbon industrialisation, energy security, and green value chains. By investing in green hydrogen, the Gulf countries can catalyse regionally tailored transitions while generating long-term returns through diversified energy exports and industrial partnerships.
Many countries in the Global South have the key ingredients for green hydrogen production: abundant renewable resources, critical minerals, and growing energy demand. However, they often face systemic barriers, including limited infrastructure, weak policy coordination, and restricted access to affordable financing. Gulf countries, with advanced hydrogen strategies and deep capital pools, are well-positioned to address these challenges. Their growing investment footprints and experience with hydrogen technologies offer a foundation for climate finance that is both transformative and mutually beneficial.
Members are encouraged to share diverse perspectives and sectoral interests, from industrial decarbonisation and energy trade to policy innovation and regional collaboration. Key areas could include comparative assessments of regional hydrogen readiness and sectoral demands for green ammonia, fertilisers, green steel, mobility, and heavy industry. The group will explore Gulf-backed investment models that de-risk projects, enable scale-up, and support policy alignment, technology transfer, workforce development, and certification schemes to help position the Gulf as a global hydrogen leader.
