Sustainable Agriculture

Agriculture remains central to economic and social development in many parts of the Global South. However, the sector often relies on traditional practices and fragmented systems, lacking integration into broader development and climate resilience strategies. Facing increasing climate stress, water scarcity, and food insecurity, agriculture now sits at the frontlines of the green transition.

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries import over 85% of their food, mostly from the Global South, yet rank highly in global food security. This paradox presents an opportunity: moving from linear donor-recipient models toward reciprocal agricultural partnerships.

Agricultural systems across the Global South are shaped by diverse geographies, governance models, and resource conditions. Tailored, climate-smart solutions are essential to ensure resilience and food security while enabling scale and innovation. These partnerships with the Gulf can also catalyse investment in clean energy, agri-tech, and efficient water use.

This Focus Group convenes experts across regions to explore how Gulf climate finance can support sustainable agriculture as a driver of economic diversification and regional stability. Discussions will centre on policy-driven and practical approaches that align national and regional agricultural visions, with a focus on integrating clean energy, agri-tech, and resource-efficient practices. The emphasis will be on generating both grassroots and scalable solutions that align with local priorities and global sustainability targets.
