Climate Policy Researcher at the Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London
Ahmed AlJameel is a climate policy researcher at the Centre for Environmental Policy (CEP), Imperial College London. He is also a nominated expert on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Roster of Experts participating in the Technical Expert Review (TER) of Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR) under the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) of the Paris Agreement. Ahmed has experience in international energy and climate policy including climate finance, having served as the lead negotiator of climate finance agenda items at COP26, COP27 and COP28, as well as an advisor to the board of the Green Climate Fund (GCF). He also worked in Vienna as a research fellow at OPEC, where he studied the impacts of carbon pricing on global energy demand and prices. His current research focuses on evaluating how market-based mechanisms (MBMs) can trigger economic tipping points in the cost competitiveness of alternative drop-in aviation fuels, while also mobilising demand-side (pull) finance to accelerate their adoption.
